21 May: Hiked 11 miles to Spring Mountain Shelter. Rained late morning and early afternoon in Hot Springs, NC and we delayed our planned departure for more than an hour. Tented away from the shelter and it rained through the night.
22 May: Hiked 16 miles to Jerry’s Cabin Shelter. Passed the 300 mile mark right before the shelter. Tented away from the shelter.
23 May: Hiked 15.5 miles to tent near Hogback Ridge Shelter. Rained from 1130 through most of the hike. Set up tent without rain and then the rain picked back up at the end of dinner and continued through the night.
24 May: Hiked 26+ miles from Hogback Ridge Shelter to the trailhead of the AT in Erwin, TN. Met with gusty winds and rain on top of a bald. Rain continued for the majority of the hike. Picked up by Mike at 9 p.m. at the AT trailhead. Mike and Peggy are the owners of Cantarrosa Farm where Red bull and I shared a cabin. After dropping laundry off at Mike’s we were shuttled into town to pick up some food for dinner.
