I finally departed on my trip and really enjoyed my first day of biking along the C&O Canal. After the first four miles, my rear rack slid off the top mounting bracket. Fortunately, it was a quick fix. I am riding with a bit too much gear, so I readjusted some of the load to the front rack. While it was a little warm outside, most of the path was covered in shade from the trees making it cool and enjoyable. I arrived on the edge of Harpers Ferry an hour before sunset and contemplated shuttling my panniers and bike up the stairs to the river crossing but decided against it. I really had my heart set on something hot and tasty followed by ice cream but opted to press on and finally stopped to camp at Killansburg Cave campground after biking 72.6 miles that day; dinner instead was an orange, a breakfast sandwich my father bought for me that morning and a cereal bar. I woke early at 230A.M. then tossed and turned until 7:00 A.M. I tried transferring data from my GPS to my laptop but my phone wasn’t able to tether to my laptop, so I packed and biked 26 miles to Williamsport, my current location as I write and eat, and loaded up on gas station food. Looking forward to having some better food choices later on and I am especially looking forward to road-side fruit stands. I am having issues showing my GPS tack here, so I’ll have to figure that out later. Back to the trail!
