Bike DC to Alaska Day 2-3

Biked from Killansburg Cave through the Paw Paw Tunnel and camped at Purslane Run campground last night finishing day 2 for a total distance of 84.8.  This morning,  Day 3 (12JUL) I enjoyed chatting with fellow biker Dino and hiker Rick over some tea. Dino, his wife and 3 kids are bike camping; I think that is a fun family activity. I biked 30 miles this morning to the end of the C&O Canal; my GPS says I have biked 181 miles since starting. Currently I am in Cumberland, MD getting a bite to eat and after lunch I will start The Great Allegheny Passage to Pittsburgh, PA.  The trail has been beautiful so far. My bike is handling well and my legs are fine; the only problem is chaffing where the seat meets my the meat (my bottom).  I still need to figure the mechanics of my website out. I thought I created something to post to under Current and Ongoing, but I couldn’t find it anywhere, so I am just going with the blog post function that seems to work for now. I also have had bad luck with phone signals at my campsites, so I have been unable to hotspot/tether my phone to my computer until I am near built-up areas. I’ll try to get some pics on the post next time.

  1. Eric–Hi! I finally checked on your website and read your story so far–July 29 i think ! Sounds great! We had a good remainder of our trip and a nice few days near Ohiopyle (where you noted the bike tools by the trail). I’m looking forward to getting your updates. Keep on truckin”!–Dino and family
